Thank You January

Thank you January for all that you gave us and thank you February for all that will come! Gratitude is the open door to abundance and it's a force far more powerful than any action you could take. I've been keeping a gratitude journal for 3 years now, so I'd thought I'd reflect on a few of the things I thanked the Universe for this past month.

Free cinema tickets from Citroen
These arrived a couple days into the new year and I'd totally forgotten I'd applied to win them before Christmas! It was a lovely surprise and now I just need to hurry up and decide what film to go see.

Began writing for Maximum Pop
Just before Christmas I applied to be a Style Intern for maximumpop.co.uk and now I'm happy to say I'm part of the team! Everyone's so great and passionate about the site and I'm really enjoying writing for them, especially since it combines my love of celebrities with my interest in fashion. You can see some of the articles I've written here.

UK Senior Mathematics Challenge
I've done the maths challenge every year since 2009 and I've always done well but not as great as I did this year! As you can see from my Instagram, I came away with not only a silver certificate but also 'best in year' and 'best in school' - seriously geeky, I know.

Finding new songs which you love
I've never really listened to One Direction much before but I am completely obsessed with Zayn's new song and music video 'PILLOWTALK'. I've listened to it way too many times for it to be healthy.

What are you thankful for in January?

Word of the Week | PETRICHOR

It's that time again... the notion of a new Word of the Week always brightens up my Monday. I can only hope it has the same effect on you guys! This week's word is pretty apt considering British weather recently...
lunar look word of the week petrichor
PETRICHOR
Definition: the scent of rain on dry earth

You know the really nice smell after rain that everybody seems to love but can never explain why? Well, there's a word for it. It sounds like the term is almost made-up upon first glance but it's pretty simple when you dissect it - a blend of 'petri' meaning 'relating to rocks' and the word 'ichor', often used in Greek mythology to mean the ethereal blood that runs through the veins of gods, but basically 'fluid'. You learn something new everyday, right?

Check back here next Monday for a shiny new word!

The Power of A Vision Board

I think the concept of a vision board has become very misconstrued recently, with most people now viewing it as merely a collage of pretty pictures which makes for an aesthetic Instagram post. However, the true purpose of a vision board is far from this; the power of visualisation is one that is beyond human comprehension. The good part is that you don't need to understand how it works in order to benefit from it, you just need to understand the importance of your thoughts and how you can use them to have ANYTHING you want in the universe.
everything you can imagine is real
WHAT IS A VISION BOARD?
A vision board is basically a collation of images which represent the 'things' you want to attract into your life. Whether it be material things like a new car, house, possession etc or something more abstract like happiness, a relationship or a certain feeling - it works for any desire that you have. The idea is to look at it often and view those things as already being yours. Not just thinking it, but believing it and FEELING it on every level. The Universe is a catalogue and you are simply making your order. Sit back and enjoy the unfolding.

WHY DOES IT WORK?
Like I said before, you don't have to understand how or why a vision board works in order to benefit from it. But it helps to have unwavering faith in what you're doing because you know it's not philosophy, but rather physics. Everything in the Universe is made up of energy and all those things are vibrating at a certain frequency - including your thoughts. Think of yourself as a transmission tower broadcasting frequencies of thoughts into the Universe and literally creating your reality in front of you. Everything you can imagine is real because thoughts become things. That's all there is to it. Scientists did a study on athletes where they got them to run a race in their mind only and they found that the muscles fired in the exact same sequence as it would if they were actually running. This is because the Universe doesn't know the difference between things that are happening in your imagination or in reality. If you can see it in your mind, you can have it in your hand!

A STORY
There was a man who had been told the art of visualisation before, but didn't really believe in it that much. One day, while he was clearing his attic, he found a box containing his old vision boards from years ago. As he was looking through them, he saw a photo of a house which he'd put on there as he'd wanted to manifest into his life and immediately started crying. He realised that he was actually living in that very house today. Not a similar one, the EXACT one. He was shocked. He'd attracted his dream house into his life and was living in it without even realising! That was the day he truly began to understand the power of visualisation.

TIPS FOR CREATING A VISION BOARD
Be specific. Play out the event of having what you want in your mind. If you want a new car, look at the back of your hands. Truly look at them and study the lines and veins. Now imagine those exact hands wrapping themselves around your brand new steering wheel. Feel how amazing it is to finally have what you've always wanted. It should feel so good that you don't even need the car any more because it feels like you already have it!

That's the power of visualisation. And I'll let you into a secret - no dream or goal or desire is too big. It's just as easy to manifest a cup of coffee as it is to manifest a million pounds. It is only your belief that one is more difficult to attract than the other that prolongs your absence of it. Happy Visualising! X

What are you putting on your vision board?

My Favourite Quotes from Macbeth

Macbeth is pretty much my favourite play ever. I love Shakespeare in general but there's something so special about Macbeth, that I just can't pinpoint, which sets it apart from other tragedies. I recently watched the new film version and I have to say it was my favourite yet (I've seen the Polanski and Gould ones plus Verdi's opera) although it did annoy me a little how they omitted some really great quotes and scenes. But anyway, we're also studying Macbeth in A Level English literature and the exam is closed text so me sharing my favourite quotes with you is basically revision for me too. It's a win-win situation, right?

"Stars, hide your fires; let not light see my black and deep desires."

"What's done is done."

"There's no art
To find the mind's construction in the face"

"It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood."

"Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood
Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather
The multitudinous seas incarnadine,
Making the green one red."

"My hands are of your colour, but I shame
To wear a heart so white."

"It will be rain tonight."
"Let it come down."

Word of the Week | APRICITY

Welcome to Word of the Week! I hope you guys enjoyed reading last week's post as much as I loved writing it. As a writer and (self-proclaimed) wordsmith, I'm absolutely fascinated by obscure and felicitous words; it's so much fun discovering them, exploring their derivations and, most importantly, getting to share them with all of you.

APRICITY
Definition: the warmth of the sun in winter

This week's word comes from the Latin meaning "to bask in the sun" and, I must say, it is a beautiful one. Apricity has long been one of my favourite words because it describes something so simple and yet incredibly sublime. My poetical brain can see such potential for an amazing extended metaphor that it could be used for!

If you liked this series, be sure to check back next Monday for a fab new word.

OOTD | Camel Roll Neck

It's been a while since I've posted an OOTD but I swear it seems like every time I plan to shoot it suddenly pours with rain the entire day. This week I decided I would get out there, regardless of the weather, to photograph my first outfit of 2016 and basically ended up freezing my ass off in the process. Oh, the stuff I do for the sake of art...

I'm not usually a fan of roll neck tops but it seems to be a huge trend right now so I thought I'd give it a go. I think I'm definitely more of a fan of loose clothing but I'm still undecided on whether I can pull it off or not. I will say that I love the neutral colour palette with the gorgeous camel shade complementing my amaziiiiinngg new boots. You know when you love a pair of shoes so much that you don't want to wear them out? My life right now.

PS. Can I just say I'm really loving this 'Plum Sensation' lip colour right now by Collection... I applied it in the afternoon and it was still perfect by the time I went to bed at around midnight. *mini fist pump*

What do you think of today's outfit? Let me know in the comments below!

Word of the Week | PRONOIA

Welcome to a sparkly new series on Lunar Look! I am madly in love with words (perhaps even more so than I am with numbers!) and I've spent a great portion of my life discovering, analysing and obsessing over vocabulary - all while being in awe at the subtlety of the English language. I have sat for hours contemplating the seemly insignificant difference between the words 'eternal' and 'immortal'; while many simply see these as synonyms, I firmly believe that no two words can be identical in meaning and effect. Every string of 26 characters is unique.

As language evolves, I constantly find myself discovering new words and phrases to describe incredible feelings, beliefs and occurrences that many didn't know even existed. That is why I decided to start this new 'Word of the Week' series. Each week, probably on a Monday, I will pick an obscure or interesting word to create a post around. It might be meaningful, it might be strange or it might simply just be beautiful. Either way, I can only hope it inspires you to see the magic, beauty and power of words. (Or at least just helps to improve the world's vocabulary!)

PRONOIA
Definition: the belief that the universe is conspiring in your favour

We've all heard of paranoia, but not many are aware of its wonderful antonym. I picked it because I've been living in a state of pronoia for the past few years of my life and I didn't even know there was a word for it until last year! The Universe always knows best even if you think you know better. I choose to have faith that everything is coming together and unfolding perfectly, rather than fearing that it isn't. How blessed we are. How wonderful life is. To know there are forces out there happening right now that you don't even know about. The Universe is always on your side.

New Year, New Boots

You know the moment when you're standing in front of a wardrobe full of shoes and yet still have absolutely nothing to wear? That was today's situation. A few of my shoes either haven't been worn in ages or are falling apart so I managed to finally get rid of five pairs (and almost broke my heart in the process cause they're not just footwear, they're friends, right?) Now obviously it would be wrong not to replace them with some shiny new ones...
new look boots
Boots are my go-to autumn/winter staple. I love wearing sandals for spring/summer but, despite it being a warm Christmas, I don't think it's quite that hot yet! It didn't take me long to find a pair I loved in the New Look January sale - so much so that I couldn't decide between the two and had to buy both.

I adore tan coloured footwear. Not as much as I love black but, still, it's pretty high up there on the list. This pair reminds me of brogues but have that extra bit of flair with my favourite chunky block heel. They're super comfy, perfect for everyday wear and were a bargain at £14 reduced from £27.99!

I never used to go for pointed footwear as I always thought they looked uncomfortable but recently I have been loving it so much! I don't have narrow feet but even I would say these are actually more comfy than the other pair which are wide-fit. The zip front is definitely what makes this shoe and I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of these in future outfit posts because I'm already planning to wear them 24/7. Again, these were on sale at £16.79 reduced from £27.99!

Have you bought anything nice in the January sales yet?

Why I Don't Make New Year's Resolutions

2016 is on the horizon and everyone has something that they want to accomplish. Whether it be to lose weight, to get a better job or maybe even to become a happier person in general - this is the time of the year people start talking about their goals. I, however, will not be making a resolution for the New Year. Here’s why.
2016 diary

The perfect moment to start is now
Don’t get me wrong, I have plans and aspirations too. My problem with New Year's resolutions isn’t the fact that people are trying to improve themselves, it’s the notion that somehow the beginning of a new year is required to spur action. “New year, new me!”, so the saying goes. But the way I look at it is why not, “New day, new me!” or even “New second, new me!”? As human beings we are all constantly expanding, changing and evolving in ways you can’t even imagine. It is never too late to be brand new. If I want something, I don’t need to wait until the New Year to have it. I’m gonna go out and get it now.

Procrastination
Successful people understand that life isn’t just happening to them, it’s responding to them. They don’t sit around waiting for opportunities to arise, they knock and the door is opened. Most people think they are ‘knocking’ by making New Year’s resolutions, but really I think they are just the perfect excuse for procrastination to breed. When it’s halfway through January and you haven’t completed your goal yet - “oh well, there’s always next year.” There is a reason why the majority of New Year's resolutions are given up on within the first three months. If you really want to achieve something, you need to erase the mindset that it needs to be start of a year for you to be inspired. Set your mind on something and stick with it. Know that it’s yours no matter how many obstacles you face along the way because you are a runner and you always finish the race.

The action isn’t actually that important
Most new years resolutions focus purely on action. “I want to lose three stone” “I want to read 50 books” “I want to earn £50k” or in other words, “I will complete a series of tasks and only then will I be happy.” The problem with this is that what most people don’t know is the 'doing’ part of achieving a desire is actually significantly smaller than the 'thinking’ part. The most important thing when it comes to accomplishing goals is your mindset and the way that you feel. Only then will you experience what we call 'inspired action’. Make feeling joy your priority instead of an end result and watch the magic that happens.

Forced isn't fun
Most people set New Year's resolutions just because they feel they have to. They’re under pressure and often set goals they aren’t committed to achieving and therefore don’t have the drive and emotional energy behind it. You simply cannot attract something to you if you are feeling bad about it. Desires should feel good. Amazing, even. It’s supposed to be fun! This is why it’s rare to see someone who constantly complains about being on a diet actually lose weight. They’re too busy being negative and feeling bad to bring about any positive result. Whatever you choose as your goal, the number one rule is to feel good.

Thank you 2015 for all that you gave us and thank you 2016 for all that will come!
